Comrades,
Hi, I’m back! I would like to commend Chris on a job well done for the two years
that he put in. Thanks Chris! My first meeting went fairly well. It was kept
under an hour which is always one of my goals. We had around 15 members
present. This wasn’t too bad for a fourth of July week but it would be nice to get
our meetings back up in the twenties. If anyone would like a ride or maybe a
phone call reminder let me know at (734) 243-1645.
We are going to have another gun raffle in February of 2011. As in the past
anyone who sells at least 10 tickets will be in a separate drawing the first of
March. We have to wait for our Michigan gaming license before we can have our
tickets printed up. Hopefully by next meeting. The numbers are based on the
Michigan mid-day 3 digit lottery. If you have a favorite number you would like
give me a call. I’ll try to save it on a first come bases.
We will be sponsoring another Texas hold-em in mid September. Ever since we
discontinued bingo fund raisers have become a more important part of our
budget. We need volunteers to help out. There is a sign up sheet in the
Kennedy room. We NEED help especially in the late sessions.
Once again this year 3 $300 college scholarships will be given out in a random
drawing on August 23. These are for children, step-children, grand-children,
step-grandchildren etc. Applications are in the Kennedy room or see me.
If anyone knows of someone from the area who is either going over to or
returning from Iraq or Afghanistan please let me know and they will be posted on
our outside bulletin board for a few days.
We get several newsletters returned each month. Bulk mail only cost us around
seventeen cents each to mail but the post office charges us forty-four cents to
return it. The post office will not hold or forward mail when you are out of town.
They just return it. So if you go south for the winter or you move please let me
know so you can get your mail. If we get a letter returned two months in a row it
will be taken off the mailing list until notified.
Past commander Wayne Griffin has come down with Guillain barre syndrome and
has been in the University of Michigan hospital for over a month getting
treatment and therapy. Hopefully he should be home by the time you receive this
letter.
Bob Lavoy had a heart attack and has had a pace maker installed. He will be in
rehab for a few weeks at Hickory Ridge in Temperance before going home.
I’m sure they both would like some company or a phone call.
In the last week we lost two members. Both served in the second world war.
Lets remember Harold Malanson and Jim Cinglie.
Hope to see you August 4th.
Mike
