NOV 2008 NEXT MEETING: DEC 3, 2008
www.erievfw.com
Comrades,
The November meeting went well. The meeting was held in the Kennedy room with the hall
floor being stripped and waxed by the Men’s Aux. It was a tad cramped but attendance
was good with about 20 members present. Comrade Dave Eby of Monroe Post 1138 was
present at the meeting. Dave is a Monroe County Historian writing articles about veterans
with many being published in the Monroe Evening News.
Minutes from the meeting include:
Mike Santure spoke on the Gun Raffle. Ticket sales are a little slower from last year. Each
person to sell 10 tickets or more has a chance of winning a gun on March 1st 2009. To buy
tickets contact Mike, myself or Email the post. Winners can choose to take the $250 instead
of a gun. There is a list in the Kennedy Room, if you wish to purchase one of these guns,
get your name on the list.
Earl Gerard stated that the copier is on back order and will be here soon.
Comrades try to remember the Kennedy Room is our own club room for the use of the Post
and Auxiliary members. We need to leave it the way we found it and perform our own
housekeeping before we close the doors.
The Men’s and Ladies Aux are putting on a Children’s Christmas Party, Sat Dec 6th. Parade
starts @ 11 AM. Then back to the Post for hot dogs and excited children waiting to see
Santa. Erie community and Post member’s family are welcome.
The Annual Christmas Party put on by the Men’s Aux. will be Fri Dec 12th. This is an adult
only party and is a big hit every year. Let’s show our support and holiday cheer.
Our 63rd Annual Veterans Day Dinner was a successful sell out. A big thanks to Vets dinner
committee, Ladies Aux. and everyone who helped make the night possible. Jon Manor,
representing Senator Richardville handed out special framed tributes to our Ladies charter
members. Our guest speaker Kathy Angerer made a wonderful speech about Veterans Day,
and sharing it with our youth. Robert LaPointe did an excellent job as the Master of
Ceremonies. The dinner by Glenda’s Catering was delicious. Remember Our Vets: “ALL
GAVE SOME, SOME GAVE ALL,” was the theme. The Ladies Auxiliary celebrated their 60th
Anniversary of their charter members with a great show put on by Marji, Grace, Joni and
Jill. Afterwards many stayed and danced the night away to the DJ: All Around Sounds. It
was a night to remember.
Veterans Day the Post was invited to Bedford Jr. High. About 900 kids in attendance and
10 post members. The flag was raised with the Pledge of Allegiance, followed by our Honor
Guards, Rifle Ceremony and Taps. Once again a job well done Erie Post 3925. Afterwards
we were invited for coffee and cake as we sat down and answered questions from a few
students about Veterans Day and our military service. Informing the youth is what it is all
about.
Don’t forget to visit our sick and shut in friends, they would enjoy the company (please call
first). You can find a list on our website, www.erievfw.com: You can also read our
newsletters, up coming events and clean-up and work parties there. You can let Chuck
know who is sick and what is ailing the member, or if there is an upcoming event of some
sort that I forgot to mention. I’m sure he will be happy to post it.
If you know someone who may be interested in joining the post, call or contact myself
(734) 625-6640 or Chuck Bagwell Membership chairman (734) 856-6354
Hope to see you the 3rd.
