Ladies Auxiliary Newsletter
Meeting of November 12, 2008
Hello Ladies,
It has been a busy month at the post. We had our annual inspection Wednesday
with District President Regina Liedel. She gave us a very favorable report.
We also held a pot luck dinner before our meeting with lots of yummy dishes.
Some Post members, Men’s Aux members, a few husbands and family or friends
joined us for the meal.
LuAnne DuVall sent in reports for our last fund raiser the “Comedy Night” over all,
it was a great success. She sends thanks to all workers; those who donated
desserts; to the bartenders and Dave Toepfer and his kitchen elves.
Sheila Santure collected $50.00 in donations for care packages to send to our
soldiers.
Grace Connolly submitted her youth activities report. Patriot’s Pen Essays were
judged by Rosemary and Bob LaVoy. Winners: 1st place Brook
Staunton-$100.00, 2nd place Nicholas Steven Raymond-$50.00, and 3rd place
Monika Ceccarelli-$25.00 the awards will be presented at a Mason School Board
meeting. Thanks Bob and Rosemary!!
Grace also spoke to an Enrichment Teacher at Mason Elementary School about
writing to the troops at Christmas time. Grace is sending in a picture of Sheila’s
grandson writing to the troops, for a citation. If anyone has children or
grandchildren that write to the troops please submit their names to Grace for a
citation.
Grace is also hostessing the “Santa comes to Erie” December 6, 2008. Mason
Elementary School and St. Joseph School have been invited. All your
grandchildren and children are invited. Grace would love any donations for gifts.
She will also need help decorating the hall on December 5th and help with serving
the luncheon.
The Erie Knights of Columbus are furnishing the hot dog buns and dessert. Santa
will be there, of course and he will be coming in on a fire truck from Erie Fire
Department, along with Luna Pier Fire Department and Erie Police Department.
The Men’s Aux has been asked to help with the parade. Last year we had 225
children.
We had a large turn out for the Veterans' Day Dinner. The anniversary ceremony
was beautiful. The honoring of the Charter members and getting a chance to
hear the stories of the early days was priceless! Grace Connolly was our mistress
of ceremonies. Joan Close made and presented a DVD movie of early pictures of
the Auxiliary. Dawn Shock called the names of all the Charter Auxiliary Members
that are no longer with us. It was wonderful to see our members surrounded by
their families.
We have had a few more due’s paid this month, let’s try and get them paid before
the end of the year. Dues are $20.00, this includes insurance. The life members
have a $3.75 payment for insurance that I wrongly reported as $3.00 last time.
Sharon Grodi also brought up that, besides the cancer grant, you can also get
cancer insurance. Please contact her if you are interested in that. Sharon’s
address is 13678 Monte Carlo Dr. Camden, MI 49232.
I never seem to have enough room on this page. In closing I would like to thank
the Post Veterans, Men’s Aux, and all the ladies that go above and beyond. Please
read the other letters for more news.
Sincerely Marji Terry
